RedHawk Linux for 64-Bit ARM Released

Pompano Beach, FL

Concurrent, a global provider of high-performance Linux® and storage solutions, today announced a new version of the RedHawk™ Real-Time Linux Operating System, that includes support for 64-bit ARM processors. In addition to supporting aerospace and defense requirements, RedHawk version 7.2 enables embedded applications in automotive, robotics, networking and Internet-of-things (IOT) markets that require high-performance, low-power consumption and real-time response characteristics.

“The ARM 64 processor is an ideal compute engine for complex embedded projects such as self-driving vehicles, advanced robotic systems, and a variety of IOT and networking applications due to its high performance-to-power ratio,” said Ken Jackson, Concurrent’s SVP of Linux and Real-Time. “With its unrivaled combination of ultra-low latency, high determinism, and advanced debugging tools, RedHawk delivers the guaranteed performance required to support an emerging wave of ARM-based opportunities.”

Concurrent’s embedded Linux offering includes a suite of software tools that can be used to launch new applications more quickly.

NightStar™: NightStar is a powerful integrated tool set for debugging, analyzing, and tuning latency-sensitive embedded applications. NightStar tools run with minimal intrusion, enabling developers to graphically view and trace the interaction of their application threads with the Linux kernel in real-time to uncover performance bottlenecks.

RedHawk Architect: Architect is a graphical tool that allows users to choose the specific Linux and application modules they want to include in their OS build in order to optimize it for the targeted use.

“Support for ARM’s 64-bit IP is growing across the embedded landscape and we expect to see significant growth in real-world silicon deployments later this year,” said Roy Murdock, Research Associate, IOT and Embedded Technology. “We believe there is a compelling opportunity for Linux OS vendors like Concurrent to capture new business in markets focused on high-performance processors.”

RedHawk Linux is fully compatible with the CentOS Linux distribution and remains the industry’s leading real-time Linux operating system for x86 systems. It is widely used in mission critical applications including simulation, training, data acquisition and process control. RedHawk version 7.2 is currently available to customers.
